White Pine girl, class of 74, same as my cousin. Lost touch with that whole town after the mine closed but reading about Suzanne tonight brought it all back.

Suzanne Marie Wolkiewicz, known to her family as "Gram Zanne," died on November 6, 2026, at her home in Escanaba, Michigan, with her family by her side. She was 70 years old.
She was born on April 6, 1956, in Ontonagon, Michigan, to Clarence "Bud" Broemer and Lyme "Lee" (Huhti) Broemer of White Pine, Michigan, and grew up alongside her sister Marlene. She attended White Pine Elementary and White Pine High School, graduating in 1974 as a member of the Warrior Alumnae. Over the course of her life she moved several times, living for a period in Jackson, Michigan, then returning to Michigan's Upper Peninsula to be near her parents, later settling in Appleton, Wisconsin, and finally making her home in Escanaba.
Suzanne built a working life around customer service and hospitality, roles in which her family and former colleagues remembered her quick wit, strong organizational skills and friendly manner. Most recently, she worked at the Meijer Gas Station in Escanaba, a job she took pride in and where she was well liked by coworkers and customers alike. Outside of work, she was described by her family as a free spirit who loved music and concerts, time outdoors, bonfires, and collecting rocks and sticks along the beach.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bryce Wolkiewicz, her half brother Peter Kuhn of Germany, and her grandparents Arthur and Mary Broemer, along with aunts, uncles and cousins of the Broemer, Huhti, Funke and Savela families. She is survived by her two children, Jessi Lee Chouinard (and her husband Dustin) of Escanaba, Michigan, and Clint Broemer of Clarksville, Tennessee, along with grandchildren and the wider circle of family and friends who shared in her life.
No cause of death has been made public. Her obituary, shared by the Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County, described a woman cherished for the warmth she brought to her family and community, and her children remembered her simply as their mother and "Gram Zanne," a woman who filled their lives with music, laughter and memories by the water. A Celebration of Life is planned for the summer of 2027 in Escanaba, where family and friends will gather to remember her.
