Violet M. Negus was a longtime resident of Elk River, Minnesota, known to her family and community as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who spent her life caring for the people around her. She was not a public figure in the conventional sense of politics, business or entertainment, and no Wikipedia article exists for her. She is remembered locally and through tributes shared by her family and the funeral home handling her arrangements.
Negus was born on May 31, 1939, in Monticello, Minnesota, to Edward and Mecie (Brown) Lange, and she graduated from Monticello High School in 1957. For much of her adult life she worked as a stay-at-home mother, and she also held a job at the Ben Franklin store for a time. According to her obituary, she enjoyed crafting, playing music with her sisters, playing cards, and hosting family and friends, and she took particular pleasure in welcoming visitors into her home for coffee and conversation.
Those who knew her described her as warm and caring, with a special gift for bringing people together. She was predeceased by her husband, James Negus, by her parents, and by her brothers and sisters. She was especially devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and family members have said that time with them brought her the greatest joy of her later years.
Violet M. Negus died on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Guardian Angels, a care facility in Elk River, at the age of 87. Her family publicly thanked the staff of Guardian Angels and Triniti Hospice for the care she received in her final period. No cause of death has been made public. A Celebration of Life service is expected to be held at a later date, with details to be announced by Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, which is handling arrangements.
She is survived by her children Glenn (Teena) Negus, Jody (Robert) Lashinski, Julie (Mark) Lee, Jamie (Paula) Negus and Jason (Christina) Negus, along with 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, her sister Linda Jordan, and many other relatives and friends.
