Saw this pop up on my phone during lunch and had to put the fork down. My uncle died the same way, stabbed, years back, and that word in a headline still does something to me. This guy was just walking his dog and trying to help someone. Forty nine years old.

Wayne Broadhurst was a 49-year-old man from Uxbridge, in the London Borough of Hillingdon, west London. He was described in reports as a local street cleaner and was a familiar face in his neighbourhood, where he was often seen walking his dog. He was not a public figure, and little about his personal life has been made public.
On the evening of Monday 27 October 2025, he was stabbed in Midhurst Gardens, Uxbridge, while out walking his dog. Two other people were injured in the same attack, a man who was the attacker's landlord and a 14-year-old boy. Wayne Broadhurst died at the scene, with his dog by his side. Police said the attack was not being treated as terror-related.
Early local accounts suggested he had tried to intervene in a fight, but the prosecution later told the court that he had been attacked at random and without provocation while simply going about his business. Neighbours who spoke to reporters remembered him as a lovely, gentle and peaceful man who was well known in the area.
The man responsible, Dawood Safi, then 28, an Afghan national who lived in Midhurst Gardens, was charged with murder and attempted murder in October 2025. In July 2026 at Southwark Crown Court he admitted manslaughter by diminished responsibility, after psychiatric evidence showed he had been suffering from psychotic delusions, and he was convicted by a jury of attempting to murder his landlord. He also admitted actual bodily harm against the teenager and possession of a knife.
On 5 October 2026, Mrs Justice Cutts gave Safi an indefinite hospital order, finding that the killing of Wayne Broadhurst was entirely attributable to his mental disorder, and recommended his deportation. Doctors told the court he was likely to spend at least five years at Broadmoor before any transfer.
The case received wide national coverage. Details of Wayne Broadhurst's family, funeral or any memorial have not been confirmed in verified reporting.
