Yahya Saidu was a Nigerian businessman, philanthropist and local politician who served as Executive Chairman of Fufore Local Government Area in Adamawa State, in north eastern Nigeria. He had been in office for less than three months when he died on Friday, 9 October 2026.
Known locally as Dr Yahya Saidu Fufore, he also held the traditional title Dan Galadima Fuunange. Before entering council office he was described in local reporting as a business figure and a grassroots mobiliser who had supported people in the area for years, and supporters pointed to that record when he sought election.
In June 2026 the Peoples Democratic Party, which governs Adamawa State, formally flagged off its local government campaign in Fufore and presented Saidu as its chairmanship candidate for the council election of 13 June 2026. At the rally he promised to bring positive change and to carry everyone along, whatever their ward, ethnic group, faith or party. Fufore is made up of eleven wards, among them Beti, Jauro-Ji, Gurin, Pariya, Karlahi and Mayo Ine.
Saidu won the chairmanship and was sworn in on 15 July 2026. He took over a council that had already been through a period of mourning: its previous elected chairman, Alhaji Shuaibu Babas, had died in office on 23 April 2025, after which Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri swore in Peace Samson Audu to lead the council in the interim.
Saidu died in the early hours of Friday, 9 October 2026, according to Daily Post Nigeria. No cause of death was made public. His death was confirmed the next day in a condolence statement from Aliyu Boya Wakili, the member of the House of Representatives for the Fufore/Song Federal Constituency, who called it a great loss to the people of Fufore and Adamawa State and described Saidu as a dedicated public servant whose passing left a huge vacuum in local administration and in the state PDP. Condolence messages came in from across Adamawa's 21 local government areas, and the family said burial would follow Islamic rites.
He was the second chairman of Fufore to die in office in less than two years, a coincidence that prompted wide reflection in the state on the fragility of life and power.
