For Tom Daniel · 1d ago

"Basically, I am an industrial designer." That was it, that was the whole man.

For Duca · 16d ago

so my dad used to put on these old Zaragoza DVDs on a sunday, god knows where he got them, and there was this grainy clip of a Brazilian lad scoring in Belfast of all places, 1962, against Glentoran, and dad would say that's the first one, that's the one that started it all for them in Europe. took me years to realise the player was Duca. he died at 92 and I only properly looked him up today, Flamengo, three Carioca titles in the fifties, Copa del Rey in 64 too, but it's that Belfast goal that stuck with me because of dad. anyway. 92 is a good innings as they say here. sorry, rambling, just sad in a strange way for someone I never really knew anything about until an hour ago

For Maruf Hossain Sajib · 15 Sept 2026

Bilop won the critics' prize. That alone says something about his writing. But what strikes me is how many dramas he made, year after year, for different channels. That's a working life.

For Kippy Brown · 8 Sept 2026

Pioneer quarterback, then a lifetime of lifting others up. What a career.

For Edythe Harrison · 7 Sept 2026

Saw her on WTAR back in the day. Miss Eydie was brilliant on camera, but her real work was offscreen building the opera and changing politics.

For Rachel Naomi Remen, MD · 25 Aug 2026

Didn't know her work until medical school, but The Healer's Art was assigned first term. Made you think differently about why you were there.

For John Irvin · 18 Aug 2026

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy on the BBC is still the best spy drama ever made. John Irvin knew how to let Alec Guinness breathe.

For Chuck Norris · 27 Mar 2026

Saw him spar once on a documentary when I was maybe twelve. Never forgot how precise he was, how controlled. A real martial artist first.

For Sir Roger Moore · 5 Aug 2025

The Persuaders was brilliant, underrated compared to Bond but honestly I loved it more. Two leads with actual chemistry. Gone at 89, that's a good innings.

Agreed, the scleral shells still look better than most effects today.
