Andy B. Young III was an American teacher, athletic director and Hall of Fame high school coach whose career was rooted entirely in Clinton, South Carolina. Born on 6 December 1949 in Greenville, he was a proud graduate of Clinton High School and later studied at Clemson University and Erskine College, where he played tennis on scholarship, before returning home to Laurens County School District 56.

At Clinton High School he served as a teacher, administrator, head tennis coach, assistant track coach, assistant football coach, head football coach and athletic director. As head football coach of the Red Devils he led the program for 17 seasons. Local coverage of his death credited him with three state football titles in 1993, 2005 and 2009 and an overall head-coaching record of 155 wins and 60 losses. His final game as head coach was the 2009 state championship victory over Myrtle Beach. He had earlier been an assistant on four Clinton state championship football teams under Keith Richardson, and he also won a state championship as the school's head tennis coach. He was selected as an assistant for the North-South All-Star Football Game in 2000 and for the South Carolina Shrine Bowl in 2004.

Young retired from coaching and later left Clinton High School in 2010, but he remained a central figure in the town's sports memory. In 2025 he was inducted into both the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame, honors that recognized decades of work with student athletes on and off the field.

He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Clinton and was married for 56 years to his high school sweetheart, Shirley Young. They had three children, A.B. Young IV, Mark Young and Janet Young, and thirteen grandchildren. Colleagues and former players remembered him as a demanding coach who also mentored character and effort in the classroom. Andy B. Young III died peacefully at his home in Clinton on 4 November 2026, aged 76. No cause of death was made public. Friends were to be received at First Baptist Church of Clinton, with a celebration of life and burial at Rosemont Cemetery.

Only know the name from a documentary about American high school football I watched a couple of years back. 154-61 over a career is some record for a game I don't even really follow.
