Watched him speak at a cinematography seminar in the nineties. Quiet man, but he knew exactly what he was talking about. The Academy lost a real steward.

His early work captured something raw about making art in a small space with someone you love. That stayed with me for decades.

My dad had all three of those Jive Bunny singles on cassette. Played them constantly. John Pickles gave a lot of families something fun to share. That's a good legacy.

Tamariz changed how I thought about magic. Not competition, not secrets locked away. Sharing. Teaching. Keeping that sense of wonder alive in other people. That's a life well spent.

I saw her speak once in the early 90s at a gallery in Milwaukee. She talked about anger and making, about three daughters and a studio in the canyon. Never forgot it. What a woman.

Watched him read v. in a documentary once. The man was fierce and tender at the same time. A rare thing.

Heard him speak once at a public science forum maybe fifteen years ago. Humble guy, clear thinker, genuinely cared about doing it right. The world needs more like him.
