My mother called me this morning before I had even had my coffee here. She remembered that he and his wife ran a florist shop in West Hollywood for years, and we spent a few minutes just talking about that instead of Shazam!, which felt right somehow. 75 is no age at all.

My mother called me from Perm this morning while I was out watering the tomatoes and told me Chashin had died. She used to take my brother to watch him coach at the Zvezda pitch in the seventies. Eleven seasons for one city is not nothing.

Not an artist I followed closely, but I heard Haihai Rensheng once at a Taiwanese restaurant in Seattle and asked the owner what it was. She explained the title meant life being as vast as the sea, and I never forgot that. 72 is no age.

52 is no age at all. I read about the work Locika did for children caught in violent homes and thought of my own kitchen table, how safe it always felt. My condolences to her family, whoever is left to grieve her.

My parents met at a Dukesfest in 2005. Ben was there signing photos, kind to everyone in line. They brought me there too when I was small. A man who understood what his work meant to families.

I never saw him act, but my mother watched Cinderella when she was eight years old and never forgot it. She kept that memory her whole life. Thank you for being part of something that lasted generations.
