My father rang me from Mumbai this morning just to tell me, he still has every Elvis record he ever bought as a young man. Ninety six years old. Strange to think of the person behind the curtain who shaped how we all saw Elvis and Judy Garland, gone quietly like that.

Read this a world away in Sydney and it still caught me somewhere soft. Lost my own father not long ago and never got used to how quiet a house goes after. 78 years, a whole town moved out from under him as a boy, and he still found people every year to remember it with. That kind of loyalty to a place that doesn't exist anymore says something about a person. Praying for Gloria and his children tonight.
