For Brian Jones · 19d ago

so I never really followed Merseybeat stuff, that whole scene always felt like something my dad talked about more than me, but my husband had the Undertakers on in the background one weekend and I asked who it was and he said the sax player just died, 85, and honestly I spent the next hour reading about him. butcher before he was a musician. self taught sax off the radio. there's something about that I can't shake, teaching yourself a whole instrument because you heard it once on Radio Luxembourg and thought that's it, that's what I want to do. sixty plus years playing after that. I don't know why it's sticking with me since I'm not even a fan really but it is. edit: he worked with Jackie Lomax too apparently, small world

Only found her work two years ago, a subtitled clip of Shapit someone posted online. 73 is no age for a talent like that.

For Aleksandr Pashchenko · 8 Sept 2026

Saw him in something at a festival once. Unforgettable. That kind of commitment doesn't come around often.

For Hugh Curran · 7 Sept 2026

Leading scorer everywhere he went. Built something for himself off the pitch too. That takes ambition.

For Jackie Glass · 3 Sept 2026

She went from covering the courts to sitting on the bench to helping people settle their disputes. That's a life of real work. Respect.
