Read Africans: The History of a Continent cover to cover on my dad's porch the summer after college. 87. That book changed how I thought about the whole continent, not just one country.

i keep thinking about this and i don't really have it sorted out yet. 15. that's the number that won't sit right with me, i coach youth track on weekends here in illinois and every time one of my kids lines up in the blocks i think about the 100 and 200 this kid ran at page high, running back too, small for the position they said, fearless anyway. i didn't know him, never met him, just read the reports like everyone else. but there's something about a stadium full of people who watched a kid get hurt on a thursday and then three days later he's gone. i don't know what to say really. edit: saw the vigil is the 17th at the stadium, hope it helps them some kind of way

Watched him play for Liverpool as a kid. The intensity, the hunger. Not the biggest guy on the pitch but you always knew where the ball was going.

He spent decades documenting what others wanted erased. That matters.
