My father played one of Gene's records every Sunday morning for thirty years. He said that guitar sounded like someone thinking out loud, honestly. I understand now what he meant.

Janie came to HAL events with such grace and joy, laughing with the students like they were her own grandchildren. She made you feel like you mattered. The scholarship fund will keep her spirit alive, and that's a beautiful thing.

My father took me to hear President Laney speak about faith and science at Emory when I was in college. The way he talked about the university as a place to form the whole person, not just the mind, changed how I thought about everything. A true educator and peacemaker.

My father loved his work. Said there was intelligence behind every choice Sutherland made, never phoning it in. He was right. What a gift to the world.
