Just saw a clip on the news from when he committed to West Virginia, him smiling in that cap, and now this. 17 years old. I don't know what to say.

I remember the night in 2001 when Dutch TV showed the first same sex weddings, my aunt in Seoul had it on and said someone in parliament started all this years before. Took me until this week to learn his name was Coos Huijsen. Didn't know him but I think about that broadcast every time this comes up.

MTV Asia used to play Pretty Child on a loop back when I was renting a tiny room in Seoul with a secondhand TV, and I didn't understand a word but I knew every note of that guitar line by the second week. 62. That's it, that's all I keep thinking.

Read this over breakfast and had to put my coffee down. My uncle went at 97 too, not long ago, same kind of quiet fade. Ninety seven is a long life but it still stings when it happens.

I read about his cemetery work in Poland and it stayed with me. He didn't just survive, he made sure the names wouldn't disappear. That's love that goes beyond a lifetime.

Watched him play on the television when I was young. Such grace, such speed. He made it look simple. Rest well, Sir Billy.

I saw a documentary about him years ago and couldn't stop thinking about it. The way he spoke about horses, like they were people with their own dignity. That stayed with me.

My father was a chemist and kept a picture of Rudolph Marcus on his desk. Said he was living proof that a life in theory could matter.
For Alain Delon · 12 Aug 2025
When I was young in Seoul my father loved his films. We would sit together and watch. Delon was like a dream to us, something from another world. Thank you for those memories.
