Just saw a clip on the news from when he committed to West Virginia, him smiling in that cap, and now this. 17 years old. I don't know what to say.

Christopher Wilson Jr., known to friends, family and teammates as Chris, was a 17 year old senior at Yorktown High School in Yorktown, Indiana, and one of the most highly regarded high school football recruits in the state's history when he was shot and killed in Muncie, Indiana, in the early hours of October 5, 2026.
Standing about 6 feet 5 inches tall and playing defensive end, Wilson had committed in June 2026 to play college football at West Virginia University. He was rated a three star recruit and was described by reporters covering the recruiting class as the top ranked football prospect ever to come out of Delaware County, Indiana. He had also drawn offers from Indiana, Auburn, Ole Miss and Texas A&M, among other major programs, and had piled up strong numbers in his junior season, including 25 tackles, 7 tackles for loss and 4 sacks.
Despite his size and his standing as a Division I recruit, people who knew him consistently described Wilson as unassuming. His high school principal and his football coach both said after his death that he never sought the attention that came with being a top prospect, preferring instead to show up, work hard and treat teammates and classmates with kindness. That combination of talent and humility made him a well liked figure well beyond the football field at Yorktown High School.
Wilson was shot multiple times and found inside a vehicle in the 1400 block of East Cromer Avenue in Muncie, Indiana, in the early morning hours of Monday, October 5, 2026. Delaware County emergency dispatchers received the call reporting the shooting at about 2:59 a.m., and first responders pronounced him dead at the scene. He was 17 years old. As of the days immediately following his death, police had not publicly named a suspect or identified a motive, and the investigation was continuing. Local reporting later indicated that a man had been connected to the case, though further details, including any charges, were not confirmed in the days that followed.
The news of Wilson's death arrived while Yorktown schools were on fall break, and the high school's principal told families that counselors would be available when classes resumed and urged students to check in with one another. Tributes poured in from the football program and the broader Yorktown community, which remembered him not only as a standout athlete with a bright future in the sport but as a steady, good natured young man whose loss was felt well beyond the locker room.
