Alan Rickman came to film late, at 41, as Hans Gruber in Die Hard, and went on to Truly, Madly, Deeply, Sense and Sensibility and Severus Snape in the Harry Potter films. He died of pancreatic cancer at 69.

My grandmother loved Alan. When she died we played their work at the funeral. Now they're both gone. Strange how connected it all is.
