Bobby Wright was an American actor and country singer, the only son of the country music stars Kitty Wells and Johnnie Wright. He played the radio operator Willy Moss in the television comedy McHale's Navy and later charted 21 country singles. He died at his home in Madison, Tennessee, on 27 October 2026, aged 84.

He was born John Robert Wright Jr. in Charleston, West Virginia, on 30 March 1942. He spent much of his boyhood in Louisiana, where his parents were regular performers on the Louisiana Hayride, and he first appeared on the show with them at the age of eight. The family returned to Nashville in 1958 when his parents became headliners at the Grand Ole Opry. He graduated from Madison High School, where he played baseball, basketball and football.

Although he could sing and play guitar, he was more interested in acting. A screen test he made in Hollywood came to the attention of the producers of McHale's Navy, who cast him as Willy Moss, the radio operator of PT-73, a part he played throughout the series from 1962 to 1966, alongside Ernest Borgnine and Tim Conway. He also played the outlaw Bud Bunnoy in the western comedy Pistols 'n' Petticoats.

Unhappy with Hollywood, he returned to Nashville and turned to music. He recorded for Decca, ABC and United Artists between 1967 and 1979 and placed 21 singles on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart, the most successful being Here I Go Again in 1971. He appeared with his parents and sisters on the syndicated Kitty Wells Family Show and toured with his parents as part of the Kitty Wells, Johnnie Wright and Bobby Wright family show until they retired from the road in 2007, including appearances at the Wembley country music festival in 1974 and at Peterborough in 1988.

Wright married Brenda Kay Davis, and they had two daughters, LeAnn and Kamela. He was the last surviving member of the McHale's Navy cast. He died peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, on 27 October 2026, and his funeral was arranged for 3 November at Spring Hill Funeral Home in Madison.
