My father-in-law used to call from Jamshedpur every election season just to talk about Mishra ji and the BJP committee meetings. He phoned me again today, this time about his heart attack. 78 years old, gone just walking out to a ceremony.

Chandrasekhar Mishra was a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, and a former president of the party's Jamshedpur Mahanagar (city) committee. A member of the Hindu nationalist movement since his youth, he was described by Dainik Jagran as a lifelong Jan Sanghi. He died on 28 October 2026, aged 78, after falling ill on his way to a party event.
Few details of Mishra's early life have been published. Former Jharkhand chief minister Raghubar Das, who also came from Jamshedpur, said the two had been classmates and had worked together for the party since their teenage years. Mishra lived in the Indranagar area of Bhalubasa in Jamshedpur.
Mishra built his career in the party organization rather than in elected office. Over several decades he rose through the BJP in Jamshedpur, the industrial city that is home to Tata Steel, and led the party's city unit as its president. Beyond politics he was active in local civic and religious life: he served as president of the Basti Vikas Samiti, a neighbourhood development body, and of the Bhalubasa Sheetla Mandir committee, and was linked to several religious and social organizations.
Even in his late seventies he remained active in party work. On the morning of 28 October 2026 he set out from home to attend a foundation stone laying ceremony in Chhayanagar when he developed chest pain. He was taken to a local doctor and then rushed to Tata Motors Hospital, but died on the way or shortly after arriving. Local reports gave the cause as a heart attack. A BJP statement announced his death.
Tributes came quickly from Jharkhand's political leaders. Raghubar Das called his death a personal loss and said Mishra had been completely dedicated to the party. Former chief minister Arjun Munda said his dedication and service to the organization would always be remembered, and Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy described him as a saintly politician whom the city would always remember. MP Bidyut Baran Mahato, MLA Purnima Das Sahu and city BJP president Sanjeev Sinha went to the hospital. His funeral procession was to leave his home on 29 October for cremation at the Swarnarekha burning ghat in Bhuiyandih.
