Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in prison for his fight against apartheid and walked out in 1990 to lead South Africa's transition to democracy. He became the country's first Black president in 1994 and shared the 1993 Nobel Peace Prize with F. W. de Klerk. He was known at home as Madiba.

My dad introduced me to Nelson's work when I was a kid. We talked about it for hours. Today I'm thinking of both of them.
