Dan Goddard was an American politician, retired United States Air Force colonel and economic development official from Parsons, Kansas. A Republican, he represented the 15th district in the Kansas Senate from 2017 to 2021 and the 7th district in the Kansas House of Representatives from 2023 until his death, while serving out his final term before a planned retirement.

Born on 3 November 1947, he said his boyhood dream had been to become an Air Force pilot rather than a politician. He achieved it, flying and serving in the Air Force during a military career that spanned 24 years and ended with his retirement as a colonel.

After leaving the military he spent about 20 years helping communities recover from the closure of military bases. From 1994 to 2005 he was executive director of the Grissom Redevelopment Authority in Indiana, and in 2006 he was hired as executive director of the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant Local Redevelopment Planning Authority, which brought him to Parsons to lead the reuse of the closed plant. He later led its successor, the Great Plains Development Authority.

Goddard was elected to the Kansas Senate in 2016. He lost his bid for re-election in 2020 to fellow Republican Virgil Peck by 18 votes. When Representative Richard Proehl retired in 2022, Goddard ran for House District 7, covering parts of Labette and Neosho counties, and was elected unopposed. He was re-elected in 2024 and sat on the House judiciary, transportation, and veterans and military committees. He chose not to seek another term in 2026, and his term was due to end in January 2027.

Speaking at the close of his final session in April 2026, he said he had come to Kansas "without a political thought in my mind" and had made friends on both sides of the aisle he would never forget. His advice to colleagues was to slow down and take it easy for a more harmonious outcome.

Dan Goddard died on the night of Thursday 29 October 2026, aged 78, with weeks left in his House term. House Speaker Dan Hawkins notified lawmakers of his death. He was survived by his wife, Robin.
