I don't really know what to say about this one. Saw the story come up on my feed this morning and it just stopped me. A heart of gold, that's what her family called her. 33 years old. I'm not from Lincolnshire, never heard of Hogsthorpe before today, but this one's sticking with me.

Hayley Ann Marson was a 33 year old woman from Hogsthorpe, a village in Lincolnshire near Skegness, whose death in late September 2026 became the subject of a murder investigation and criminal prosecution. Before her death she was not a public figure: she was known to her family and community as a daughter, sister, granddaughter and aunt, and it was only through the circumstances of her killing that her name and story reached a national audience.
Hayley Marson was found dead at a property on Thames Street in Hogsthorpe at around 9am on Tuesday 29 September 2026, after police were called to the address. Lincolnshire Police launched a murder investigation and two men, who were already known to officers at the scene, were arrested on suspicion of murder that same day.
Her family came to be central to how the public learned about her. Through a statement released by Lincolnshire Police, they described her as a woman who 'would do anything for anyone' and who had 'a heart of gold'. They spoke of the laughter and personality she brought into their lives and asked for privacy to grieve as a family.
On Friday 2 October, two men, John Scott, 52, of no fixed address, and John Welby, 65, of Thames Street in Hogsthorpe, were charged with her murder. They appeared before Lincoln Magistrates' Court and were remanded into custody to appear at Lincoln Crown Court. Detective Inspector Melissa Rooke of Lincolnshire Police's Major Crime Unit said officers were working to provide answers to Hayley's family, and said that at that stage the force believed the death to be an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public.
On Monday 5 October, Scott and Welby appeared before Judge Catarina Sjolin-Knight at Lincoln Crown Court. No pleas were entered. The case was adjourned to a plea and trial preparation hearing due to take place on 18 December 2026, and a preliminary trial date was set for 22 March 2027, with an estimated length of two to three weeks. Both men were remanded in custody. Because the matter is now before the courts and the two defendants have not yet entered pleas, the full circumstances of Hayley Marson's death have not been made public and will be examined at trial.
