Jacqueline (Jackie) Carroll, known as Jackie and born Jacqueline Dunne, died on 25 September 2026, surrounded by her family, after an illness for which she had been receiving care from the Slievnamon Unit, Oak Ward, at University Hospital Waterford, the South East Palliative Care Team and the Irish Cancer Society. She was a home maker and matriarch from south Tipperary, most recently of 4 Mountain View, Cloneen, and formerly of Kilvemnon, Mullinahone, near Thurles.
Her death notice, published through Tipp FM and rip.ie, does not give her age or an occupation beyond her role at the centre of her family and community, and no Wikipedia biography exists for her. She is not recorded in these reports as having held public office, worked in a notable profession or achieved wider public recognition. Her story, as it is told publicly, is the story of a wife, mother and grandmother whose death was announced in the ordinary way that families in rural Ireland announce a death, through a local death notice rather than national news coverage.
She was predeceased by her son Shane, her parents Michael and Josie Dunne of Kilvemnon, and her brother Michael Dunne of Ballycullen. She is survived by her husband James, her daughter Emma, her sons David, James, Stephen and Patrick, a son in law, two daughters in law, eight named grandchildren, two brothers, two sisters, and a wide circle of relatives, neighbours and friends in the Cloneen and Mullinahone area.
The notice thanks the medical and palliative staff who cared for her, language that, together with the family's request for donations to the Irish Cancer Society in lieu of flowers, points strongly to a cancer related illness, though no report has used the word cancer directly or named a specific diagnosis. Her family has asked that this information be treated as a private matter beyond what they have already shared publicly.
Her funeral arrangements were announced alongside the death notice. She is due to be reposing at Brett's Funeral Home on Sunday 27 September 2026, followed by removal to St. Michael's Church on Kickham Street in Mullinahone, with Requiem Mass due to take place on Monday 28 September 2026, and burial afterwards in Cloneen Cemetery. Tributes so far have come from the local community through condolences left on rip.ie and Tipp FM rather than from public figures or national commentators, reflecting her life as a private individual mourned by those who knew her personally.
