I only found her through old TV Fama clips on YouTube last month, researching Brazilian pop culture for a trip, and I was laughing at how sharp she and Nelson Rubens were together. Now I read she passed at 48. Sitting here in Alabama feeling strange about mourning someone I discovered two weeks ago.

Janaína Barbosa was a Brazilian television presenter and actress who became a familiar face in the early 2000s as co-host of TV Fama, the RedeTV! celebrity programme, alongside Nelson Rubens. She later left the spotlight, trained in psychology and worked as a psychoanalyst in São Paulo.
She was born in São Paulo in 1978. Before and alongside her television work she was a dancer, a theatre producer and a muse of the Rio de Janeiro samba school Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel.
In 2001 she began presenting TV Fama, the RedeTV! entertainment and interview programme, with the veteran gossip journalist Nelson Rubens. The programme, broadcast on weekdays since November 1999, made her nationally known and turned her into one of the recognisable young faces of Brazilian entertainment television. She left in 2002 and was succeeded by Luísa Mell. She then turned to acting and appeared in the Globo series Casos e Acasos in 2008. In later years she graduated in psychology, practised as a psychoanalyst in her own consulting room and collaborated with a laboratory and the university hospital of the University of São Paulo.
Her personal life was widely followed by the Brazilian press. She began dating the presenter Otávio Mesquita in 2001 and married him in 2002, at a wedding attended by Luciana Gimenez and Roberto Justus that made the cover of Caras magazine. They were together until 2007. In 2010 she married the businessman Felipe Faria, grandson of the Banco Alfa founder Aloysio de Andrade Faria, in a beachside ceremony on the island of Comandatuba in Bahia. They had two sons, Bernardo and Frederico, and later separated.
She died in São Paulo on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, aged 48. Otávio Mesquita confirmed her death to the press the next day, saying she had been "a very upright person". A friend, Camila Avesani, told g1 that she had suffered anaphylactic shock after a change of medication. Her wake was held in São Paulo on 4 November for family and close friends. Ticiane Pinheiro and other television figures paid tribute, remembering a woman full of life and warmth. Mesquita said he had sent a message to her mother, and Camila Avesani said she was devastated by the loss.
