Jaswant Singh Yadav was an Indian politician from Rajasthan who represented the Behror assembly constituency as a Bharatiya Janata Party legislator and served as a cabinet minister in the state government. A physician by training, he was widely known as Dr Jaswant Singh Yadav. Over nearly three decades in elected office he was a four-time member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, sat for one term in the Lok Sabha from Alwar, and held the labour, employment, skills and factory inspection portfolios under chief minister Vasundhara Raje. He died in Jaipur on 8 November 2026, aged 73.

He was born on 5 August 1953 in the village of Silpata, then in Kotkasim tehsil of Alwar district and now in Khairthal-Tijara district. His parents were Surat Singh Yadav and Chandrawati Yadav. After schooling in the village and in Alwar, and college in Ajmer, he studied Ayurveda at A and U Tibbia College of the University of Delhi, earning a Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery degree in 1980. He later listed his occupations as physician, farmer and social worker as well as politician. On 4 December 1979 he married Dr Kiran Yadav. They had a son, Mohit Yadav, and a daughter.

Yadav began his political life in the Congress party. He was associated with the Youth Congress in the 1980s, later chaired the Alwar district Congress committee and served as zila pramukh of the Alwar zila parishad from 1995 to 1998. After joining the Bharatiya Janata Party he won the Mundawar assembly seat in 1998. The following year he was elected to the 13th Lok Sabha from Alwar and resigned his assembly seat. He served in parliament until 2004, sitting on the committee on defence and other House committees, and later held organisational posts in the Rajasthan BJP.

He then made Behror the centre of his career, winning the seat for the BJP in 2008 and retaining it in 2013. From December 2016 until December 2018 he was a cabinet minister in the Vasundhara Raje government, with charge of labour and employment, skills development, factory and boilers inspection, employees' state insurance and industrial training institutes. In 2018 he lost a Lok Sabha by-election from Alwar, and some of his campaign remarks that year attracted complaints and wide publicity. The BJP fielded his son Mohit from Behror in the 2018 assembly election; Mohit finished third behind the independent winner Baljeet Yadav. Jaswant Singh Yadav returned from Behror in 2023, defeating Baljeet Yadav, and was a sitting MLA at his death.

Jaswant Singh Yadav died at 8.15 am on Sunday 8 November 2026 at a hospital in Jaipur, after what news reports described as a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 73. His son, Mohit Yadav, announced the death, saying his father's affection, simplicity and commitment to society would remain in people's memories. The family said his body would be kept at his residence in Jaswant Nagar, Alwar, for public homage on 8 November, and that last rites would be held at 3 pm on 9 November in Silpata.

Tributes came from across party lines. Rajasthan governor Haribhau Bagde expressed his condolences. Former chief minister Vasundhara Raje called the death extremely sad and painful and said Yadav had made significant contributions to the region's development and public welfare. Former Congress chief minister Ashok Gehlot described him as an experienced leader with a long public life. His death reduced the strength of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly to 199, and a by-election in Behror is expected within six months.
