Kieran James Lerwill was a 28 year old motorcyclist from Bishops Nympton, a small village in North Devon, England. He was not a public figure in the conventional sense of someone with a career in entertainment, politics or sport, but he became known in the days following his death through local and national news coverage of the road traffic collision that killed him, and through the tribute his family gave to local reporters. That tribute, describing him as a gentle and loving son, grandson, brother, uncle, partner and friend, was widely reported and read by people in his community and beyond who wanted to understand who he was and what had happened to him.
Lerwill lived in Bishops Nympton, near South Molton in North Devon, and rode a blue BMW S1000 motorbike. Little else about his working life, education or personal history has yet been made public, and this page will be updated as more verified details become available. What is known comes almost entirely from statements released by Devon and Cornwall Police and from the family's own words, which focused on the depth of his loss to them rather than on biographical detail.
His death mattered to those who knew him because, as his family said, his loss left what they described as a hole that could never be filled. Beyond his immediate family and community, his death became a matter of wider public concern because it occurred on a public road during a collision between a motorbike and a tractor, a combination of vehicles that is a recurring safety concern on rural roads in the South West of England. Police appealed publicly for witnesses, which brought the case to regional and national attention.
Kieran James Lerwill died on 4 October 2026 following a two vehicle collision on the B3227 at Nadder Lane, near South Molton in Devon. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 4.55pm. His motorbike was in collision with a green John Deere tractor. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and the tractor driver was not injured and remained at the scene to assist police. Devon and Cornwall Police closed the road for several hours while officers investigated, reopening it the following morning.
His family's tribute, released through Devon and Cornwall Police five days after his death, described him as deeply loved and said that words could not express the sadness and despair they were feeling. They asked for their privacy to be respected while they grieved. Police have continued to appeal for witnesses and for anyone with dashcam footage of the collision or sightings of the motorbike beforehand to come forward, and an investigation into the circumstances of the crash remains ongoing.
