Kimmarie Johnson was an American actress, model, beauty pageant titleholder and skincare entrepreneur whose path ran from a modest childhood in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, to the Miss USA stage and then to two decades of film, television and runway work in Los Angeles. She was best known for a guest role in Beverly Hills, 90210, a part in the comedy Dude, Where's My Car?, her reign as Miss Pennsylvania USA 1993 and her own natural skincare line, SkinGlow by Kimmarie. She died in Los Angeles on 4 November 2026. Her family gave her age as 50.
She was born Kim Marie Johnson in Pittsburgh, the youngest child of Edward Frank Johnson and Caroline Ella Johnson, and grew up in neighbouring Wilkinsburg. "I was born and raised in Wilkinsburg, Pittsburgh, PA. I come from very humble beginnings," she later told Voyage LA. Her parents separated when she was about ten, and she, her mother and her two brothers moved in with her grandmother, Eleanor Elizabeth Taliaferro West, and later with other relatives. As a teenager she took on the care of her oldest brother's infant daughter, Rhonda. She attended Wilkinsburg High School, where she completed an Allegheny County youth job skills programme in her senior year and was named homecoming queen, an honour she would win again in college. She went on to study elementary education and child psychology at California University of Pennsylvania (now part of Pennsylvania Western University).
After college she moved to New York City and worked as an international flight attendant. During that period she was signed by Docherty, a Pittsburgh modelling agency, and modelled for names including Vidal Sassoon, Oscar de la Renta and United Colors of Benetton. She later recalled seeing a newspaper advertisement for the Miss Pennsylvania USA pageant and entering with no pageant training at all. She won, and as Miss Pennsylvania USA 1993 she represented the state at the 42nd Miss USA pageant, televised live from the Century II Convention Center in Wichita, Kansas, on 19 February 1993, where she finished in the top six. The event was won by Kenya Moore of Michigan.
In 1996 Johnson moved to Los Angeles, a city she said felt like a different country after Pittsburgh. She knew no one there, held down a job at the El Rey Theatre and kept modelling, including work for the California Market Center and Lady Foot Locker, while she trained as an actress under Janet Alhanti at the Margie Haber studio. She made her screen debut in Troy Byer's 1998 film Let's Talk About Sex and that year played Judy in the Beverly Hills, 90210 season eight episode "The Following Options". Further roles followed in V.I.P. with Pamela Anderson, the 2000 hit comedy Dude, Where's My Car? with Ashton Kutcher and Seann William Scott, Carman: The Champion, Shadow Fury, Spanish Fly, Gang Warz, Break a Leg, Diary of a Tired Black Man, Legacy and The Summer of Massacre, and an episode of the sitcom Wanda at Large. Her last screen credit was an episode of Tucker's War in 2017.
Her son, Cameron Nino, was born in 2003, seven days after the death of her oldest brother. Her mother died of cancer in 2004. Johnson stepped back from her career for a few years to raise her son, studying improvisation at The Groundlings during that time. In 2006 the Independent Filmmakers Alliance named her its actress of the month, and between 2007 and 2010 she played leads in stage productions in Los Angeles, including The Dark Side of the Moon at The Next Stage and an adaptation of A Christmas Carol. She also moved behind the camera as executive producer of The Last Eve (2005), an action drama by Korean American director Young Man Kang that won awards at New York independent and B movie festivals, and of the 2010 television film Kimchi Warrior.
In 2011 she founded SkinGlow by Kimmarie, a natural skincare and beauty line, launching its first product, Ori Shea Butter, in September 2012. Later products included a coffee detox scrub and marula oil. She said the business let her talk with women about their health, and she spoke often of mentoring young women because she had never had a mentor herself. She kept modelling into her final year and appeared on the cover of Grazia Slovenia in August 2026.
On 27 October 2026 Johnson suffered what her family described as a heart event at her home in Los Angeles. She was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where doctors diagnosed a heart aneurysm condition. Her niece, Rhonda Scott, told TMZ that she died peacefully on the afternoon of Wednesday 4 November 2026. Tributes from friends and family in Pittsburgh and Los Angeles followed on social media, recalling a woman who was supportive, encouraging and proud of where she came from.
