Kriang Kalptinan was a Thai businessman and politician from Ubon Ratchathani who sat in the House of Representatives for five terms and served as Deputy Minister of the Interior in the government of Srettha Thavisin. For three decades he was one of the most influential political figures in the lower northeast of Thailand, and a long serving pillar of Thaksin Shinawatra's parties in the region.

He was born Kriangsak Sae-Ung on 27 November 1952 in the Ban Du community of Mueang Ubon Ratchathani district. He studied community development and later educational administration at what is now Ubon Ratchathani Rajabhat University, and took a further master's degree in public administration at Chalermkarnchana College.

Kriang entered parliament in 1995 as a Democrat Party member for Ubon Ratchathani, defeating Chaisiri Ruangkanchanaset, then one of the most powerful political bosses of the lower northeast. He was re-elected in 1996 for the New Aspiration Party, and in 2001 and 2005 for Thai Rak Thai. When the Constitutional Court dissolved Thai Rak Thai in 2007, he was among the 111 party executives banned from politics for five years.

He returned in 2012 as a deputy leader of Pheu Thai, stood on its party list in 2014 and 2019, and was elected again in 2023 as number six on the list. On 1 September 2023 he became Deputy Minister of the Interior under Srettha Thavisin, overseeing disaster prevention and the Bangkok administration, and he held the post until September 2024. His family remained a force in local government, with his brother Kan Kalptinan leading the Ubon Ratchathani provincial administration and his son Worasit becoming a Pheu Thai executive.

Kriang Kalptinan died at Vichaiyut Hospital in Bangkok at 10.35 on 11 August 2026, aged 73. His family did not announce a cause, though Thairath reported that he was believed to have been ill. His body was taken home to Ubon Ratchathani for funeral rites held under royal patronage, and on 14 August Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul presided over a chanting ceremony attended by the former prime ministers Thaksin Shinawatra, Paetongtarn Shinawatra and Somchai Wongsawat. Thai PBS described him as a political heavyweight who had helped hold the lower northeast for Thaksin's movement through its years in power and its years of crisis.
