My mom just texted me a clip of Roberta from Rebelde and said she used to watch it dubbed after school. I only knew Lua Blanco from gifs honestly. 39.

Lua Blanco was a Brazilian actress, singer and songwriter who became a household name among a generation of young viewers as Roberta Messi, one of the six leads of Rebelde, RecordTV's Brazilian version of the Latin American youth telenovela, and as a lead vocalist of the band Rebeldes that grew out of it.
Born Lua Maria Blanco in Sao Paulo on 5 March 1987, she was the daughter of the musician Billy Blanco Junior and the musician and English teacher Maria Claudia Blanco, and the granddaughter of the bossa nova composer Billy Blanco. She grew up in a large musical family with five siblings, was home-schooled in English and Portuguese, and lived for two years in Peru. As a child she sang with her parents and siblings, and as a teenager she performed bossa nova and Beatles songs with the Familia Blanco group in Rio de Janeiro. While studying translation at PUC-Rio she co-founded the pop-rock band Lagrima Flor, named after one of her grandfather's songs.
She began acting in 2008, on stage in Romeu e Isolda and on Globo in the telenovela Tres Irmas. She was cast in the Brazilian production of the musical Spring Awakening, played the rocker Joe in Malhacao, presented on TV Globinho and made her film debut in Teus Olhos Meus. Rebelde, which ran from March 2011 to October 2012 over 410 episodes, made her famous. With Arthur Aguiar, Chay Suede, Mel Fronckowiak, Micael Borges and Sophia Abrahao she recorded platinum and gold selling albums and a live DVD, and the band played about 90 shows to more than a million people before its last concert in Belo Horizonte in May 2013. In 2012 viewers placed her 71st in SBT's poll of the greatest Brazilians of all time.
Her later work included the RecordTV telenovela Pecado Mortal, the stage musical Se Eu Fosse Voce, the films Turbulencia and Socorro, Virei uma Garota!, the Globo telenovela A Forca do Querer, the talent show Popstar and the comedy series Homens?. In 2016 she released her crowdfunded solo album Mao no Sonho, and she later led the band Lua Blanco e a Orbita. She also wrote an autobiographical e-book and won several Capricho Awards.
Lua Blanco died on Sunday 18 October 2026, aged 39. Her siblings Daniel, Ana Terra and Estrela Blanco announced her death on social media, saying she had been fighting cancer for the last months of her life, surrounded by the love of family and friends, and that she had died in peace. They asked for respect and silence for the family's grief. Former castmates including Sophia Abrahao sent messages of sympathy.
