I don't really know what to say. Watched Sunday's Children once on a late night cable thing years ago and never forgot the light in it. 93 is a long life well spent behind a camera.

okay this is a weird one for me to even be posting about. i was looking up Mexico City 1968 for a completely unrelated reason, trying to find out what year some cookbook was published and got sidetracked into an Olympics rabbit hole like you do, and his name kept coming up, 63.08 meters, silver behind Oerter. i don't know anything about discus, never watched it, couldn't tell you a single other thrower's name from that whole decade. but there's something about reading a stat like that at 11pm at my kitchen table with cold coffee that makes a stranger feel real for a second. anyway. 91 years old, Halle, Germany, engineer after he stopped competing apparently. sorry if this is a dumb comment to leave, I just didn't want to close the tab without saying something. rest well I guess

My mom just texted me a clip of Roberta from Rebelde and said she used to watch it dubbed after school. I only knew Lua Blanco from gifs honestly. 39.

Only found out about him last year, through a secondhand copy of Islam and the West I picked up at a library sale. Ninety two. Seventy years at one school is not something you see here.

Watched that 1988 kilometre final with my dad on a staticky feed, fourth place stuck with me for years. 60 is nothing.

my mom saw this on the news and just started crying, said she used to watch her Giselle on tape in the 80s and never forgot it. never heard of her before today but I looked up a clip and get why.

Youngest VP at 23. Started as a kid, never stopped working. Rare.

Read his book on Thirukkural in college. Changed how I thought about old poetry.
For Camilo Escalona · 5 Sept 2026
Read his book on the transition. Clear-eyed about what was lost and what had to happen next. That kind of honesty is rare.

Agreed, what he built there wasn't just a museum, it was memory itself.
