My nephew in Liverpool used to call him Fawksey too, before I even knew that was his name. Watched the news alone tonight, forty since I first saw him on the telly at my aunt's house. A fire, in Wallasey, with his dog beside him. Terrible.

Mark Fawke, known affectionately to many as Fawksey, was a grassroots football coach on the Wirral who spent years giving his time to young players through Wallasey Village Youth Football Club, where he served as a coach and committee member. He had also played for Port Sunlight Village FC, a connection the club recalled with warmth after news of his death broke. Beyond the results and the training sessions, those who knew him through the game described someone who gave children far more than coaching: encouragement, opportunities and memories that outlasted any single season.
No detailed public biography of Mr Fawke exists yet. His date of birth, education, family circumstances and other employment have not been reported by news outlets, and this page will be updated as verified information becomes available.
Mr Fawke died on the evening of Monday 19 October 2026, following a house fire at his home on Beaufort Drive in Wallasey, on the Wirral. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service was called to the semi detached property just after 20:30 BST. Firefighters managed to rescue him from the building, but he was pronounced dead by paramedics before he could be taken to Arrowe Park Hospital. His dog also died at the scene, despite attempts to resuscitate the animal. The upper floor of the house was left badly damaged by the blaze, which was brought under control by around 21:06.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established. Merseyside Police and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service are investigating the circumstances, and no further detail about how the blaze started has been made public at this stage.
Tributes followed quickly from the football community he had served. Wallasey Village YFC said its members were heartbroken, and praised the time, energy and passion he gave to grassroots football over the years, saying his impact reached far beyond the pitch itself. Port Sunlight Village FC, the club he had played for, also paid tribute to him. The news was shared widely on social media, where he was remembered as an inspiration to countless children across the Wirral.
