Mary Louise Weller was an American actress and former top New York model best remembered as Mandy Pepperidge, the prim Omega sorority sister in the 1978 campus comedy National Lampoon's Animal House. She died on 1 October 2026 at the age of 80 after a brief illness, according to a family statement shared on her Facebook account and reported by ExtraTV.

Born on 1 September 1946 in New York City to Alexander L. Weller and Annette (nee Donay), she was raised in the Westwood area of Los Angeles. She was of Lithuanian Jewish descent, and entertainer Danny Kaye was her godfather. As a teenager she trained with the U.S. Equestrian Team and competed in horse riding. She later became an in demand New York model before turning to screen work.

Weller's early film credits included the political comedy Hail! (1972) and an uncredited appearance in Serpico (1973). In 1978 she starred as a marine biologist in the television film Hunters of the Reef and played Laurie Belman in the horror film The Evil. The same year she landed the role that defined her public image: Mandy Pepperidge opposite the Delta House cast in John Landis's Animal House. The film became a box office smash and later entered the United States National Film Registry.

After Animal House she appeared in The Bell Jar (1979), the television film Once Upon a Spy (1980), Forced Vengeance (1982) with Chuck Norris, Blood Tide (1982), and Larry Cohen's monster film Q (1982). Television guest roles included Kojak, Starsky and Hutch, Fantasy Island, B.J. and the Bear, Supertrain, CHiPs, Vega$, and Quincy, M.E. She also acted on the New York stage and wrote the play Four Alone, performed at the Greenhouse Theater in Pasadena.

Weller stepped back from film and television in the early 1980s and later focused on horses, purchasing a ranch in Malibu in 1986. ExtraTV reported that she died on 1 October 2026 aged 80 after a brief illness, with her family asking for privacy. English Wikipedia records the same death date. She is remembered above all as Mandy Pepperidge, a cool counterpoint to Animal House's chaotic Delta House, and as a working actress of late 1970s and early 1980s American film and television.

Never really followed her career but Animal House got played so much at my brother's place growing up, that sorority scene with Mandy Pepperidge is burned in. 80 years old. Didn't know much else about her honestly.

Legacy

Weller remains closely identified with Mandy Pepperidge in Animal House, a film later selected for the National Film Registry. Fans of late 1970s comedy and cult cinema still cite her cool sorority persona, while her wider film and television credits place her among the working actresses who moved between modelling, horror, action and network guest roles of that era.
