Md. Abdul Hai was a Bangladeshi politician and freedom fighter from Munshiganj who was elected to the Jatiya Sangsad, the national parliament, five times as a member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). He served as deputy minister of local government, rural development and cooperatives, as a panel speaker of parliament and as a long-serving leader of the BNP in Munshiganj District.

Abdul Hai was born on 5 January 1949 in Hosendi village in Gazaria Upazila, Munshiganj, the son of Monir Uddin, a businessman. He studied at Munshiganj Multilateral High School and then at Government Haraganga College in Munshiganj, where he completed his Higher Secondary Certificate and a Bachelor of Arts degree. He was drawn into politics as a student and is remembered in Bangladesh as a freedom fighter of the 1971 Liberation War.

His career as an elected representative began in 1973, when he became chairman of Panchasar Union Parishad, one of the larger unions in Munshiganj. He joined the newly founded BNP in 1978 and the following year won his first parliamentary seat, the undivided Dhaka-8 constituency, in the 1979 general election.

After the restoration of parliamentary politics he won the Munshiganj-4 seat in 1991, in both elections of 1996 and again in 2001. During the fifth parliament he served as deputy minister in the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, and in the eighth parliament he was chosen as one of the panel speakers who presided over the house. Within the party he was central treasurer, secretary for local government affairs, an adviser to BNP chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia, and president of the Munshiganj District BNP. He was the party's candidate for Dhaka-4 in 2008.

To a younger generation he was also known for a speech to party activists during the Awami League government, in which he declared "Allah, I seek justice from You." The clip circulated widely on social media and was reused in both humorous and protest content.

Abdul Hai died at around 1:30 in the morning of Thursday 15 October 2026 while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Dhanmondi, Dhaka. He was 77. His first funeral prayer was arranged at the South Plaza of the National Parliament, with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman expected to attend, before his body was taken to Munshiganj for a second funeral prayer and burial.

Saw that clip years ago where he says "Allah, I seek justice from You" and it stuck with me, don't even know the full story behind it. Rest easy.
