Nathaniel Spychala

Nathaniel J. Spychala, known to family and friends simply as Nathaniel, was a mechanic and family man from Holdingford, Minnesota who died at his home on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at the age of 43. He was born on January 19, 1983, in St. Cloud, Minnesota, to Jeffrey Spychala and Michelle Shaw, and he grew up in the Sauk Rapids area, graduating from Sauk Rapids High School in 2001 before completing his education at St. Cloud Technical College in 2005.

Professionally, Nathaniel worked as a mechanic for Knife River, a construction materials company with operations in Sauk Rapids. Those who knew him described him as a versatile tradesman who was not limited to one skill: he worked as a mechanic, carpenter, plumber, electrician and sewer, and was also known among family as a talented cook. His obituary noted that he could turn his hand to almost any practical task, a reputation built over years of steady, hands on work in his community.

Outside of his job, Nathaniel was known for his enthusiasm for collecting vintage items. He enjoyed browsing secondhand shops such as Gopher Bargain Center and Savers, gathering old lanterns, bicycles, sewing machines, knives, kitchen appliances and small trinkets, along with American made forks and spoons. Friends and family recalled this as one of his defining hobbies, reflecting a broader appreciation for craftsmanship and history in everyday objects.

Above all, those who remember him describe Nathaniel as devoted to his family. He married Maria Suico in 2010, and the couple made their home in Holdingford with their five children. Family time was central to his life, whether through family dinners, grilling, traveling together, watching movies or playing games as a household. He is remembered by loved ones as a caring son, a supportive sibling, and above all a loving husband and father.

Nathaniel's death was confirmed through an obituary distributed by Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud, Minnesota, which announced funeral arrangements to the community. He passed away at home, and no cause of death has been made public. His funeral Mass was scheduled to take place at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Opole, with burial to follow in the parish cemetery.
