My sister called me about this from Oregon, said the whole township's in shock. Didn't know him personally but she said he was the kind of sergeant who'd actually stop and talk to people on his rounds. Strange to hear this kind of news on a phone call from so far away.

My sister called from Portland to tell me, of all things, while I was sitting in a cafe in Lisbon. I only know the name from subtitled prints of old Tamil films I tracked down years ago, but 48,000 songs in twenty languages is a number that stops you cold.
