strange thing, finding this notice online, a man I never knew from a town I've never been to, Jeannette Pennsylvania, but something in it stopped me, the bit about jigsaw puzzles and models, how he spent his free time putting things together piece by piece, there's a patience in that which I think gets lost now, everyone rushing. 89 years old. I build model ships myself, badly, and I thought of him doing it quietly in some room in Pennsylvania for decades while I was over here doing the same thing without knowing he existed. anyway. rest well Norman, sorry, edit: I mean that sincerely even though we never crossed paths

Norman C. Helman was a longtime resident of Jeannette, Pennsylvania, remembered by his family and community as a devoted husband, father and grandfather who spent his working life in western Pennsylvania. He was born on June 10, 1937, in Indiana, Pennsylvania, to Clair and Cordelia (Bowman) Helman, and he lived nearly nine decades, almost all of them in the Westmoreland County area that became his home.
Before he retired, Helman worked for Thermal Industries, a Pittsburgh area window and door manufacturer. Alongside his wife, Janett (Stout) Helman, he also ran a family business known as Helman's Twin Lakes. He was an active member of Hempfield Church of Christ and belonged to the Herminie #2 Gun Club, and he spent much of his free time hunting, fishing, building jigsaw puzzles and assembling models, pursuits that friends and family say reflected a patient, hands on temperament.
Helman's wife, Janett, died in 2021 after more than five decades of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his parents and by four sisters and a brother. He is survived by five children, Debra Klingensmith, Brenda Helman (and her husband Adam Letavec), Shari Helman, Elynor White (and her husband David), and Daniel Helman (and his wife Crystal), along with 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The size of his extended family, spanning five generations, was itself a marker of a long and settled life rooted in one part of Pennsylvania.
Norman C. Helman died on Friday, October 23, 2026, at his home in Jeannette, Pennsylvania, at the age of 89. His death was announced through an obituary published by Mason-Gelder Funeral Home, Inc., which is handling his funeral arrangements. No cause of death has been made public. Friends and family have been invited to pay their respects at visitations and a funeral service in Jeannette, with burial to follow at Twin Valley Memorial Park in Delmont, Pennsylvania.
Helman was not a public figure in the national sense, and no wider tributes or news coverage beyond his local obituary have circulated. His passing was marked, as is customary, by his community of faith, his gun club and the generations of family he leaves behind.
