Jorge Mario Bergoglio was the first pope from the Americas and the first Jesuit, taking the name Francis after the saint of the poor. He pressed the Church towards mercy, care for migrants and the environment, and died on Easter Monday 2025 at 88.

My grandmother loved Jorge. When she died we played their work at the funeral. Now they're both gone. Strange how connected it all is.
