Karol Wojtyła was the first non-Italian pope in 455 years and one of the most travelled leaders in history. His support for Solidarity in Poland helped bring down communism in Eastern Europe. He was canonised in 2014.

My grandmother loved Karol. When she died we played their work at the funeral. Now they're both gone. Strange how connected it all is.
