Roger Henri was a Brazilian conductor, arranger, composer and music producer whose work was heard by millions of television viewers who never saw his face. In four decades linked to TV Globo he took part in more than 2,000 compositions for telenovelas, miniseries and programmes, among them the opening theme of the Saturday night film slot Supercine and music for Globo Repórter and Fantástico. He liked to joke that he was the invisible man of Brazilian television. He died on 6 November 2026, aged 71.

He was born Roger Henri Barroso Huthmacher in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro state, on 22 May 1955, and began studying music at the age of ten. In 1978 he wrote the score for the short film O mágico by Luiz Bandeira de Mello. From 1981 to 1984 he was musical director of festivals in Minas Gerais, and in 1981 he arranged and conducted for the RGE label at TV Globo's song festival. In those years he produced and arranged records for RGE, RCA, PolyGram and Som Livre, and he directed the music for shows at the Sala Funarte in Rio de Janeiro.

He joined Rede Globo in 1983. Until 1990 he was a conductor and music producer there, creating many of the short musical signatures used in the network's station idents. From 1990 to 1995 he produced and arranged Som Livre albums of telenovela and miniseries soundtracks, and he wrote incidental music and orchestral themes for drama. From 1991 to 1998 he was responsible for the music of Globo Repórter and composed and orchestrated themes for Fantástico. His drama credits included Memorial de Maria Moura, Engraçadinha, Decadência, Anjo Mau and Força de um Desejo, and from 1998 to 2000 he created the soundtrack for the reality show No Limite.

Outside television he directed concerts by artists including Leila Pinheiro and Sérgio Ricardo, and his songs were recorded by singers such as Daniela Mercury, Nana Caymmi and Simone. He arranged the recording of the Brazilian national anthem sung by Fafá de Belém, and at Som Livre he arranged Tributo a um Campeão, an album in homage to the racing driver Ayrton Senna. Through his company RH Produções he also wrote jingles and music for advertising, documentaries and public campaigns.

According to his family, Roger Henri suffered a heart attack in his sleep at his home in Miguel Pereira, in the interior of Rio de Janeiro state, on Friday 6 November 2026. His death was announced on his official Instagram profile. He was buried on 7 November at the municipal cemetery of Miguel Pereira, in Governador Portela, after a wake that morning. Reporting on the funeral, Jornal Nacional noted that most Brazilians might not recognise his face, but that his music remained unmistakable.

Heart attack in his sleep. That's exactly how my brother went. Never knew his music but that line stopped me cold.
