Salahuddin Ahmed was a Bangladeshi politician and a long-serving figure in the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Dhaka. He was elected to the Jatiya Sangsad, Bangladesh's parliament, three times as the BNP candidate for Dhaka, served as general secretary of the party's undivided Dhaka city unit, and at the time of his death was the BNP's central Commerce Affairs Secretary. He died in Dhaka on 13 October 2026, aged 80.

Ahmed's parliamentary career began in the 1991 general election, the first after the end of military rule, when he won the Dhaka-4 seat for the BNP. He was returned in the February 1996 election and again in 2001, and reports of his death describe him as having represented the Dhaka-4 and Dhaka-5 constituencies. He was defeated when he stood in the June 1996, 2008 and 2018 elections.

His later years were shaped by the hard years of the BNP in opposition. In 2015 police filed a chargesheet naming him among 34 people accused over an arson attack on a bus near the Mayor Hanif Flyover during that year's opposition blockade, and he remained in hiding until he surrendered to a court in February 2021, when he was denied bail and sent to jail. As the BNP candidate for Dhaka-4 in the 2018 general election, he was seriously injured in a knife attack at a polling station while protesting what he said were voting irregularities.

His son, Tanvir Ahmed Robin, followed him into BNP politics and became member secretary of the party's Dhaka South City unit.

Ahmed had been suffering from age-related illnesses for several years and was recently admitted to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka with lung problems and other complications. He died there at 8:10 pm on Tuesday 13 October 2026. His son announced the death on social media and told reporters that the namaz-e-janaza would be held after Zuhr prayers at the Lal Mosque in Shyampur-Kadamtali on 14 October. BNP acting secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and standing committee members Mirza Abbas and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy were among the party leaders who expressed condolences.

Just saw this on New Age BD. Didn't know the man myself, only the name, my uncle used to talk about Abahani in the eighties like it was scripture. Eighty years old. Strange how these things land on you.
