Sidney Poitier became the first Black man to win the Academy Award for Best Actor, for Lilies of the Field in 1964, and starred in In the Heat of the Night and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner. He later served as the Bahamas' ambassador to Japan.

My grandmother loved Sidney. When she died we played their work at the funeral. Now they're both gone. Strange how connected it all is.
