Steven Curran Stewart, known professionally as Zeus The Voice, was an American voiceover artist whose deep, booming delivery was heard on radio stations, television networks and sports promotions around the world. To listeners of 101.5 WPDH in New York's Hudson Valley he was the familiar voice of the station's IDs, contest announcements and imaging, even though few of them knew his name. He died on 26 October 2026, aged 59.
Stewart was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, on 30 November 1966 and grew up in Raleigh, where he became a lifelong fan of the University of North Carolina. As a boy he entertained family and friends with impressions. He trained at the North Carolina School of Broadcasting and began his career as a radio DJ, including a spell in Cheraw, South Carolina, where he met his future wife, Peggy.
He went on to build an international voiceover business through his own company, Zeus The Voice, and was a member of the actors' union SAG-AFTRA. His credits included FOX, FOX Sports, MSNBC, The Weather Channel, MLB Network, TNT, Discovery Channel and the Smithsonian Channel, as well as work for the Indianapolis Colts, the Colorado State University Rams and a Cotton Bowl promotion. By 2008 the trade magazine Radio And Production reported that he was serving more than 100 radio stations and television affiliates.
Away from the microphone Stewart loved singing, songwriting and playing guitar, and he lent his voice to church programmes. His obituary recalled his love of animals, boating and time with his family. Peggy Hamden Stewart, his wife of 31 years, died in 2024. In his later years he lived in Little River, South Carolina.
His death was announced through his obituary and reported by WPDH and the trade site Radio Online on 3 November 2026. No cause of death was disclosed. Radio colleagues remembered his humour and friendship as much as his voice, and his family asked for memorial gifts to animal charities in Fayetteville and North Myrtle Beach. A private family celebration of his life is to be held at a later date.
