Yuri Gagarin became the first human in space on 12 April 1961, orbiting the Earth once aboard Vostok 1. He died at 34 when the training jet he was flying crashed.

My grandmother loved Yuri. When she died we played their work at the funeral. Now they're both gone. Strange how connected it all is.
