I grew up watching her on The Mary Tyler Moore Show with my mum in our front room. She made you believe a woman could live alone, have ambitions, fall over and still be dignified about it. Tossing that hat in Minneapolis felt like tossing mine in the air too. We've lost someone who quietly changed what was possible for the rest of us.
