Hayden Panettiere

Hayden Lesley Panettiere was born on 21 August 1989 in Palisades, an unincorporated hamlet in Rockland County, New York. She was the eldest child of Lesley R. Vogel, a former daytime soap actress, and Alan Lee "Skip" Panettiere, a captain in the New York City Fire Department. She had one younger brother, Jansen. The family had Italian, German, and English roots; her surname is associated with the Italian word for baker. In her 2026 memoir she discussed how the surname came through her father's adoptive stepfather and how her family pronounced it "pan-a-teery," while public guides often list PAN-uh-tee-AIR.

Her breakthrough as Claire Bennet on Heroes (2006-2010) made her a genre television star and won her a Saturn Award. Panettiere died on 16 August 2026 in Greenville, South Carolina, at age 36. She was found unresponsive in cardiac arrest around 1:51 p.m. local time in an apartment; emergency responders pronounced her dead at 2:32 p.m. Police said preliminary findings showed no signs of foul play, and an autopsy the next day found no signs of trauma.
