Only learned his name a few years ago, reading about Ryoko Tani's five Olympics and how she said training against him let her feel "the world." Didn't know judo, didn't know Japan, just followed the thread back to him. 79. Sounds like he never stopped showing up to the dojo himself.

My neighbor lent me a VHS of Lagaan back in the early 2000s and I watched it three times that month, mostly for the cricket but Deva Singh Sodhi stuck with me too. Sad to hear he passed at 74. Sending prayers for his wife and son.

62.
For Georgios Makropoulos · 15 Sept 2026
What a life of service. A master of the game and a builder of the chess community. Rest well, Georgios.
For Bain Boehlke · 12 Sept 2026
My daughter was in a children's show at CTC when she was seven. Bain was there, and he made her feel like her performance mattered. She's studying theater now.
For Zheng Fengrong · 1 Sept 2026
1.77 meters. A young woman from Jinan who refused to quit even when her body said stop. That's a life that matters, and it will keep mattering.
For Grace Nortey · 29 Aug 2026
What a life she lived. From radio to the screen, all those years bringing Ghana's stories to us. Auntie Grace will be remembered.
For Prichard Colón · 25 Aug 2026
Prichard's story broke my heart and then somehow strengthened it. Eleven years of fighting, not just in the ring but for every breath. Grace under unimaginable weight. His family's love was his real championship.
For Cheryl Hall · 13 Aug 2026
Shirley Johnson was so alive on screen. You felt her spirit even in a small scene. I'm grateful for actors like that, the ones who gave everything to the work.
For Alain Delon · 16 Sept 2025
A long life, lived fully and by his own rules. Purple Noon was the first grown-up film I ever saw, and I understood something about mystery and beauty I couldn't name then. Grateful for that gift. May he rest in peace.
