I just picked up Pilgrim Aflame from a used bookstore shelf last month, no idea he was still alive at 97. Sat with my coffee this morning and read the news instead of the chapter I had bookmarked. So so sad.

okay so I did not know this man's name until like 2019 when my film studies professor in college put on Love in the Afternoon for us on a random Tuesday afternoon, no pun intended, and I remember just being struck by his face in that movie, Frederic something, and I went down a whole rabbit hole after class trying to find what else he'd done, and it turns out he was in this Bunuel movie playing Jesus which I did not expect at all. anyway I saw the news this morning while I was making coffee and just sat there for a second, he was 86, almost 87, and it made me think about how long a person can be working, sixty something years, and I never even watched most of what he did honestly. edit: just looked it up, he has a movie coming out that he finished before he died. wild.
