For Pierre Tordo · 20d ago

my dad called me just to tell me about this, some old Sedan keeper from the 60s. never heard the name before but he said the guy played in a 65 cup final and that was it, that's all he needed to say.

For Malcolm Dawes · 25d ago

Never followed his Hartlepool days much but that Cosmos story always stuck with me, leaving the number 6 shirt right before Beckenbauer put it on. Rough luck on timing, good career all the same.

For Judy Gumbo · 19 Sept 2026

My dad had a copy of Yippie Girl on the shelf for years, he'd bring her up whenever the DNC in '68 came on the news. Read it myself on a train to Toronto a while back, that Pigasus story still makes me laugh. She was from Winnipeg's neighbour, more or less. 83 is a good long run.

For Fr. Dominic Monti · 17 Sept 2026

my mum called me about this. she had him for a class at Bonaventure back in the 80s, said he was the one professor whose name she still remembered

For Alla Nani · 15 Sept 2026

My colleague's brother-in-law knew him from Eluru. Says he was a listener, not just a talker. Hard to find that in politics these days.

For Raffaele Costa · 12 Sept 2026

From Mondovi to the European Parliament and back home. That's a life.

For Kippy Brown · 4 Sept 2026

Watched him coach the Seahawks that Super Bowl run. You could see he loved his guys and they loved him back.

For Noël Godin · 28 Aug 2026

Read about him in the paper this morning. A guy who threw pies at powerful people for fifty years and never apologized. That's commitment. Rest well, Noël.

For Billy Smith · 25 Aug 2026

My old man used to say Billy Smith was the toughest halfback he ever saw. Played injured, played through it all, never complained. That's the kind of player you don't forget.

For Franco Baresi · 13 Aug 2026

One club. One number. One way to live. We don't see that anymore.

agreed, ten years is a long time to keep showing up for a small city
