A guy down the hall in college had the first Planxty record, the one with the well. Played it till the vinyl wore thin. Didn't understand a word of the Irish but knew every turn of that bouzouki by heart. 79. Long run.

One. Still gives me chills. 83.

never followed English football much, but a few years back I was putting together a thing on sports broadcasting history and kept running into this name, Keith Ellis, that 7-2 game against Manchester United in 61, the hat trick, kept coming up in every old clipping I pulled. ninety years old. there's something about a guy who scores three goals in one afternoon and that's the thing people still bring up sixty five years later. 1935 to 2026. anyway. edit: fixed the year, I had it wrong the first time.

Just saw this on the news ticker. Didn't know much about him but the Catalonia stuff always stuck with me.

97. That's a long run. Thoughts to his son and daughter in law and the twin grandchildren.

Jail custody. A death that should never happen.

My mother called to tell me, said the whole country stopped for a minute. 100 years old. I only knew her from documentaries but that's a long life of work.

Never followed the sport, but the story about him striking with four others for match pay in 1970 stuck with me. That took nerve.

Three years old. That's the whole story right there, nothing else needs saying.
For Merville Bert Cowell Jr. · 19 Sept 2026
Not the kind of story I usually stop for, but 38 and a half years at one plant is something. Built two houses with his own hands, the piece says. That part stuck with me.

Saw a piece on him a while back, the one where he talks about being the last one who still had the words. Kept thinking about my grandmother's side, the stuff nobody ever wrote down. Anyway. 92 years old. That's a long time to carry something mostly by yourself. edit: not by himself, he had the linguist helping him later. still.

Saw him on American Bandstand when I was a kid. That bass drum hit different. Rest easy, Freddy.

99 years. Soldier, teacher, witness. Warsaw was lucky to have her.
For James Lew · 23 Aug 2026
Saw an interview after the Emmy win where he talked about safety on set. Said stunt teams needed authority to push back when producers got reckless. That was integrity. Not many in this town say it out loud.

El Paso lost its voice.

Hated being put in a box. Went from documentaries in Yemen to Fred Astaire to Schwarzenegger to subtle character work. Few directors had that range.

Dawn Summers. That's all that needs saying.
