man i saw this on the news this morning and couldn't stop thinking about it all day, scrolling twitter at work instead of doing my actual job. the guy retired in december after THIRTY THREE years, like he made it, he was out, and then he's back doing a graduation detail in may and some guy just drives into him. my uncle was a cop for a while in knoxville, nothing like this scale, but he always said directing traffic was the part that scared him most, not the arrests, just standing in the road trusting people to stop. 57 years old. five kids. edit: just read he was a marine before all that too, 33 years doesn't even count the corps time
