Only came across her paintings a couple of years back, a documentary on the Burren got me looking her up. Those limestone pictures stuck with me, something about the light. 93 is a good innings but still sorry to hear it.

Never heard the name until a clip of an old Algeria match turned up online last week, 1971 I think it said. Told my dad and he just nodded, like he already knew. Strange how these things reach you.

My sister rang from Leeds to tell me, she knew I'd want to know. Telemenu was years before anyone else thought to put a kitchen on television, and Wilma made it look easy. 96 years old and still sharp in interviews right to the end.

A proper actor of the old school. Did the classics the way they ought to be done, with grit and no compromise. Israel's lost a real one.
For Silvia Ederra · 8 Sept 2026
She came back at 39. That takes more than strength in the legs, doesn't it. Rest well, Silvia.
For Grace Nortey · 7 Sept 2026
Watched her on the telly decades ago and never forgot that presence. A real talent, and by all accounts a good woman too. Rest well, Auntie Grace.
For Narana Coissoró · 7 Sept 2026
Knew him from Casa de Goa years back. Quiet man, but when he talked about Portuguese India you felt how much he carried. Gone now.
For Nicolas Simion · 30 Aug 2026
Heard him play at a festival in Leeds about ten years back. Absolutely stopped me in my tracks, the way he'd take these folk melodies and turn them into something alive and modern. Real gift, that was.
For Sir Roger Moore · 5 Aug 2025
Watched him on The Saint when I was a lad, never missed an episode. Proper gentleman, on screen and off. The world's lost a good one.
