Carolyn Audrey Nixon was a longtime resident of Arvada, Colorado, who was remembered by her family as a devoted mother, grandmother and gardener. She was born in Denver, Colorado, in 1937 to Esme and Ervin Weimer, and grew up with one younger brother, Bob, who died before her.
Carolyn attended the University of Colorado Boulder for her first two years of college. It was there that she met and began dating Dale Nixon, who was also from Wheat Ridge, Colorado, and the couple later married. Carolyn and Dale spent the first two years of their marriage in southern California before returning to Colorado, settling first in Arvada and then, in 1967, moving to Longmont as part of the community that grew around IBM's plant there.
Over the following decades Carolyn raised a family and became known among friends and neighbors as a Master Gardener, a title earned through horticultural training and volunteer education, and she was known for the gardens she kept at her home throughout her life. She later returned to Arvada in 2012 and lived there for the remainder of her life.
Carolyn Audrey Nixon was not a public figure in the conventional sense, and no Wikipedia article or wider biographical record exists for her beyond her published obituary and the tributes of her family. She is remembered chiefly through the account given by her family at the time of her death, which emphasized her role as a wife, mother, grandmother and gardener rather than any public career or achievement.
Carolyn died peacefully on October 27, 2026, in Arvada, Colorado, at the age of 89, surrounded by her children and their spouses. Her death was announced through an obituary published by Horan and McConaty Funeral Service and Cremation, serving the Northwest Arvada area. No cause of death has been made public.
She is survived by her three children, Patty Heyes and her husband Doug of Kodiak, Alaska, Karen Hale and her husband Walt of Olympia, Washington, and Steve Nixon and his wife Dayna of Arvada, along with 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
